Since 2016, Avy has been building electric aircraft that combine the flexibility of a drone with the efficiency of an airplane. Designed for long-distance flights, these aircraft are perfectly suited for humanitarian missions, such as wildlife conservation and the medical transport of blood samples, vaccines, and medicines.
The team
Ilse van Nierop: “In just three years, we’ve grown from 2 to over 30 employees, and we expect to keep expanding. We give our team a lot of freedom — probably more than most companies. Employees are free to set their own working hours and determine the number of vacation days they take. We believe that this autonomy strengthens both their sense of responsibility and their engagement.”
Why did we choose Employes?
From the very beginning, Avy has been working with Employes. Ilse van Nierop explains:
“We started with Employes because, first of all, the pricing is really competitive. But beyond that, it’s great to have full control over our payroll ourselves.”
How does she view alternatives like working with a payroll company or outsourcing to a payroll administrator? Ilse van Nierop: “I don’t really believe in the future of traditional payroll companies. Many of them still handle processes manually, which is time-consuming and prone to errors. Honestly, I can’t imagine ever working with an external payroll administrator again, especially when it comes to submitting changes. That said, I do see a place for firms that handle complex HR and payroll cases.”

Are you happy with your choice?
"Absolutely. I've never worked with a system as pleasant as Employes. I can log hours, add new employees, and make changes without needing anyone’s help — and that’s just such a relief! Right now, I spend less than 10 minutes a month on payroll," she says with a smile.
Before we left, Ilse shared one final piece of advice:
